The Dodgers are placing closer Edwin Díaz on the injured list. Again.

A day after giving up three runs in ninth-inning mop-up duty of the Dodgers’ 11-5 win over the Colorado Rockies, Díaz was being placed back on the injured list on Tuesday, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed.

It marks the second time Díaz has landed on the IL this season. The Dodgers were recalling right-hander Emmet Sheehan from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday in a corresponding move.

While Díaz’s specific injury was not immediately clear, it was not initially believed to be necessarily related to the elbow injury that sidelined the $69 million offseason signing earlier this year. Díaz missed three months following a surgical procedure in April to have loose bodies removed from his elbow.

Still, the news, which was first reported by The Athletic, nonetheless represented another blow in Díaz’s injury-plagued and struggle-filled debut season with the team.

In 16 appearances, he has an 11.85 ERA and has only converted 7 of 11 save opportunities.

Since coming off the IL at the end of July, he has posted a 12.91 ERA.
