WASHINGTON — Elon Musk hat double the fun in a cabinet meeting Wednesday.

The billionaire DOGE chief turned heads during the conference at the White House when he donned two caps.

“Elon, I love the double hat,” President Trump told Musk, who was the only official in attendance who chose to wear promotional headgear that had been placed on the Cabinet Room’s table.

“He’s the only one that can do that and get away with it,” Trump joked.

“Well, Mr. President, you know they say I wear a lot of hats!” replied Musk, who wore a red Gulf of America hat on top of a black DOGE cap.

“It’s true, even my hat has a hat.”

Musk has rarely been working from the White House as he transitions out of his role leading the Department of Government Efficiency to slash federal spending and staff — but showed up for the more than 2-hour meeting.

“The American people voted for secure borders, safe cities and sensible spending. And that’s what they’ve gotten. A tremendous amount has been accomplished in the first 100 days,” Musk said.

“I think this could be the greatest administration since the founding of the country.”

Trump returned the compliment, saying, “We all want to thank you for your help, Elon. You really have sacrificed a lot and have been treated very unfairly.”

“They do like to burn my cars, which is not great,” Musk said.

“The vast majority of people really respect and appreciate you,” Trump replied. “You’ve opened up a lot of eyes as to what could be done.”

Musk said that DOGE has currently slashed about $160 billion in annual spending — after setting a $1 trillion goal.

“They say, ‘Oh, it could have been more, ‘” Trump commented. “A lot of stuff is being worked on. That number could be doubled and even tripled. A lot of things are being worked on that don’t count yet because it’s not quite there.”

Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX and owner of X, has served as an unpaid temporary government employee as he leads the DOGE effort.

His official role will end on or around May 30, after which he will be an informal adviser.

White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles told The Post in an exclusive interview Tuesday that Musk has been present much less often as he prepares to transition back to focusing on his companies.

“Instead of meeting with him in person, I’m talking to him on the phone, but it’s the same net effect,” Wiles said.

“He’ll be stepping back a little, but he’s certainly not abandoning it. And his people are definitely not.”
