ESPN makes embarrassing ‘Aaron Rogers’ blunder on ‘Monday Night Football’

ESPN is stuck in the preseason after this Week 1 blunder that aired live on the broadcast.

As the “Monday Night Football” broadcast was cutting to commercial during the Jets’ loss to the 49ers, Rodgers’ name was misspelled as “Rogers.”

The mistake occurred during the opening moments of the second quarter, as the Jets were leading 7-6 and rallying from a touchdown-scoring drive.

“We head into quarter number two,” Joe Buck said on the telecast, with Rodgers’ name misspelled, followed by a picture of the star quarterback. “Look at that smile.”

Rodgers’ smile would be short-lived, as the Jets’ star quarterback would only score one more touchdown through the remainder of the game.

The blunders weren’t confined to ESPN’s broadcast, either.

Rodgers threw an interception on a pass to receiver Garrett Wilson, and Breece Hall fumbled a ball that he had caught from Rodgers.

Hall had little success running the ball as well.

He took 16 carries for just 54 yards (3.4 average) but did plunge into the end zone for the team’s first touchdown.

Backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor would lead the team to a second touchdown score later in the game once it was out of hand.

No one on the Jets was making excuses for their poor performance after the game.

“We’re not there yet,” Wilson said, adding, “We’ve got to get better.”

The Jets head to Tennessee in Week 2 with a chance to right the ship.

ESPN will get a second chance at spelling Rodgers’ name correctly as the Jets will face the Bills at Metlife Stadium in Week 6 on “Monday Night Football.”
