California’s beloved bald eagle couple, Jackie and Shadow, have welcomed two new chicks to their nest— and fans are being asked to help choose their names.

The Friends of Big Bear Valley kicked off a naming contest, inviting the public to submit ideas for the eaglets, which recently hatched and have already captured hearts on the group’s live nest camera.

Those hoping to play parent are asked to make donations to the conservation nonprofit by paying $5 to suggest one name, $10 for three and $25 for 10 submissions.

The names must be gender-neutral since the eaglets’ sexes are still unknown, and any inappropriate suggestions will be automatically rejected.

Once all the named have been collected, a shortlist will be handed over to third-grade students in the Big Bear area who will ultimately vote to select the winners.

In a Facebook update, the Friends of Big Bear said the little ones are “close in age and size, but we can tell some subtle differences in color and behavior. Chick 1, we believe, is a little darker, more submissive, and went exploring out of the nest bowl yesterday.”

Meanwhile, “its sassy younger sibling was practicing its survival skills. Both found themselves tucked back under their dad after their adventures.”
