Latest WR Updates

  • The addition of Keenan Allen and the loss of right tackle Rashawn Slater to a season-ending injury are negatives for Ladd McConkey’s fantasy outlook. However, the 23-year-old receiver has a bit of a buffer between him and the next group of wideouts in my rankings, so he isn’t moving down for the time being. Allen’s presence is also more impactful for the other Chargers’ pass-catchers; the veteran will vulture more targets from them than he will from McConkey.

  • We continue to wait for an update on Chris Godwin’s return from the ankle injury that ended his campaign early in 2024 and required a second surgery in the spring, according to ESPN’s Jenna Laine. At this point, we have to wonder if the 29-year-old will be available early in the season and whether he’ll be the same player once he returns. In the meantime, first-rounder Emeka Egbuka is getting more buzz than I’ve ever seen a player get in training camp. The drumbeat is overwhelming from teammates, coaches and anyone who’s seen him on the practice field. I view the rookie as a Day 1 starter who won’t look back. Egbuka is now ahead of Godwin in my rankings and I worry about the veteran’s outlook this season.

  • Rashee Rice will be a polarizing player in drafts now that he’s been sentenced for his role in a car crash. There’ve been conflicting reports about a possible suspension, with ESPN’s Adam Schefter suggesting a multi-game ban is likely and others like Mark Maske of The Washington Post citing sources that say it’s premature to conclude Rice will be suspended. Chiefs beat writer Matt Derrick was told by people within the organization that they believe Rice could be forced to sit out 2-4 games. I always encourage people to follow Football Guys’ Drew Davenport, who does an excellent job analyzing all aspects of legal cases that involve fantasy players. From my view, I still want to get Rice on as many teams as possible this season. I’m willing to find a replacement for the opening weeks, if it means I’ll get a potential fantasy WR1 in the fourth round or later. It all comes down to how much risk you’re willing to accept.
