Fast-moving LA wildfire torches home, threatens nearby properties

A fast-moving brush fire tore through the Eagle Rock neighborhood of Los Angeles Thursday afternoon, torching at least one home and forcing firefighters into an aggressive battle to keep the flames from reaching more houses.

The blaze erupted shortly after 2 p.m. on Thursday, near the 2 Freeway and Colorado Boulevard.

The fire had burned about 1 acre and was pushing uphill toward Palmer Drive with other homes in its path.

At least one residence caught fire as crews worked to contain the advancing flames, FOX 11 reported.

Officials shut down one or more lanes of the 2 Freeway below the fire area.

Around 3 p.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department announced that the fire’s forward progress had been stopped, allowing crews to transition to full containment.
