A shocking and deeply disturbing case out of Brevard County, Florida, is raising serious questions about lawlessness, vigilantism, and the complete breakdown of public trust in the justice system.
According to an arrest affidavit filed by the Palm Bay Police Department, 19-year-old Lucas Sander Jones has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly carrying out a brutal, premeditated killing of a registered sex offender, then dismembering the body and stuffing the remains into suitcases.
The affidavit outlines a horrifying sequence of events beginning on March 20, 2026, when the victim, identified as Colie Lee Daniel, 28, arrived at Jones’ residence in Indialantic, Florida.
Surveillance footage reportedly captured Daniel entering the property, but he was never seen leaving.
Authorities say Jones brutally murdered Daniel, then used multiple weapons, including a baseball bat, knife, and saw, to dismember the body. The remains were reportedly placed into suitcases and storage bins before being transported and dumped near train tracks.

Jones was arrested on March 28 after investigators found an Amazon package in the suitcase addressed to Jones. Authorities were originally alerted to the suitcase after it was reported that vultures were circling the area.
Red droplets and splatter, consistent with human blood, were seen in the hallway and living room of Jones’ home, an arrest affidavit said.
Jones was charged with tampering or fabricating physical evidence, abuse of a dead body, transport of a human body in an unauthorized container and murder – dangerous depraved without premeditation.
Perhaps most disturbing are the statements allegedly made by Jones to his girlfriend, who later came forward to police.
According to the affidavit, Jones confessed to her, saying: “I killed somebody and cut him up.”
She told investigators that Jones claimed he targeted the victim because he was a registered sex offender—and that he had expressed a desire to kill him.
Burrows revealed that Jones maintained a printed list of nearby sex offenders that he had researched on his laptop.
While his mother reportedly found the list and threw it away before police could seize it, the implications are clear: Jones was allegedly hunting those the system had let back into the community.
Despite his age, Jones allegedly displayed a cold, calculated approach to the aftermath of the crime:
- Jones reportedly “hacked” his girlfriend’s phone and placed an AirTag on the victim’s vehicle to track his movements.
- He allegedly used a steam cleaner on the tile grout and poured Drano down the drains to dissolve biological matter.
- Jones reportedly coached his girlfriend on how to lie to police, researching “body language” to better conceal his guilt.
- Most disturbingly, police were led to microscope slides containing DNA material from the victim that Jones had allegedly kept.
