Fox News is offering to host a second debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris later this month in Pennsylvania.
The conservative cable news behemoth doled out an invite to both campaigns on Wednesday, suggesting Oct. 24 and Oct. 27 as potential dates for one last verbal bout.
“With a month to go until the last votes are cast, FOX News Media would like to make one final pitch for a debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump,” the company’s president Jay Wallace wrote in a letter.
Trump, 78, has repeatedly ruled out another faceoff against Harris, 59, but the network seems hopeful that it can get him to change his mind.
Fox News proposed having its star political anchors Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum moderate the debate and pitched rules similar to the CNN and ABC News debates, including muted microphones.
NBC News had previously jockeyed to host a presidential showdown between the two candidates, but the proposed date was in September.
Immediately following her clash with Trump in Philadelphia at the National Constitution Center hosted by ABC News, Harris called for a second round with him.
“When a prizefighter loses a fight, the first words out of his mouth are ‘I WANT A REMATCH,’” Trump chided on Truth Social last month. “THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!”
Before their faceoff in Philadelphia, Trump had taunted Harris by accepting two additional debate offers, despite her only agreeing to one at the time. Now she’s the one trying to goad him into another debate.
After Trump and Harris’ faceoff last month, vice presidential contenders JD Vance and Tim Walz squared off last Tuesday at the CBS Broadcast Center in the last scheduled verbal sparring match between the two sides.
Harris is also expected to forgo the 79th annual white-tie Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation dinner this year.
Historically, the Catholic charity feast had been an opportunity for two rival presidential hopefuls to appear together in a somewhat amicable setting. Trump has announced plans to attend the fete on Oct. 17.
In its last-ditch offer to the two campaigns, Fox News underscored its viewership numbers and cited a recent opinion piece in the New York Times in which editor David Swerdlick called on Harris to square off against Trump on the conservative network.
“She hasn’t made her closing argument yet. And the best way for her to do that is in another debate. To persuade Donald Trump to join her, she should offer to hold that debate on Fox News,” the piece argued.
“Harris doesn’t need to throw Trump to the proverbial mat,” the article added. “Plus, there’s a narrow slice of voters who would probably give her credit for going on an unfriendly network.”
The Post contacted both campaigns for comment. Voting is already underway in numerous states across the country.
