Francisco Lindor ‘still optimistic’ about his Mets Opening Day status as he waits for key recovery step

PORT ST. LUCIE — Francisco Lindor is visible around Mets camp, sometimes behind the cages during batting practice, talking to teammates, other times on the field during drills.

But he still hasn’t resumed impact activities, like taking a full swing or catching balls, as he recovers from surgery to repair the hamate bone stress fracture that has sidelined him this spring.

Despite that — and that spring training is progressing and the regular season is approaching — the shortstop told The Post on Sunday he’s “still optimistic” about being ready for Opening Day.

Lindor, limited to swinging one-handed and long-tossing without a glove, was also at shortstop Sunday, tracking grounders through the left side of the infield prior to a 4-3 win over Houston at Clover Park.
