Gavin Newsom has suggested he can be the Don Democrats need.

The California governor spilled about his potential positioning as the “Democratic version” of President Trump ahead of the 2028 election, saying in a sit-down with Politico that his party needs to “fight fire with fire.”

“I know two wrongs don’t make a right, but with all due respect — we’ll lose this country as we try to win that argument,” Newsom said.

“And Democrats are constantly trying to be right. The other side is ruthless. And with respect, my party needs to be more ruthless about winning because if we don’t win back the House of Representatives, we may not have a fair and free election in 2028. And I really believe that.”

He went on to add that “we’ll lose this country if we are not aggressive,” in a thinly veiled reference to Trump’s bulldozing style.

Newsom has tried to adopt the combative tone of Trump, using his social media and communications team to troll the president and other republicans.

However, his office tried to throw cold water on the comparison, telling The Post “nope” when asked whether the governor considers himself a lefty foil to the commander-in-chief.

A spokesperson shared with The Post another clip of Newsom saying he wants to fight “fire with fire” and hold a “mirror” up to Trump.

During his long conversation with Politico, the governor also turned the subject of his family when discussing his decision to run. He said his 14-year-old son texted him “you need to spend more time with us” after seeing a report that his father might enter the race.

Newsom said that “fate” will ultimately determine whether he throws his hat in.
