Abdul Carter is going to have to grow up fast.

The Giants rookie, who was benched for the first quarter against the Patriots for missing a meeting for the second time in three weeks, responded Tuesday to defensive co-captain Dexter Lawrence saying that he wants to see Carter “grow up.”

“I take it,” Carter said. “The guys who say that are guys I look up to, guys I respect. If they say something like that, I’ve got to look at myself first and say ‘What am I doing? How can I get better?’ And prove to them that I can earn their respect, grow up and be where I’m supposed to be.”

Giants radio analyst Carl Banks — a Ring of Honor member as a great linebacker — also said “it’s time for the kid to grow up” during the broadcast.
