A group of Republican lawmakers led by Rep. Nancy Mace is demanding US Citizenship and Immigration Services fire an employee who cut videos and made other social media posts praising illegal immigrants.
Mace (R-SC) and three other Republican reps alleged that posts from Wilson Osorio, an associate counsel at USCIS, encouraged illegal immigrants to flout US laws.
“Wilson Osorio, has seen fit to use YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram to encourage aliens from Latin America to come to the United States illegally—putting American citizens as well as aliens who seek to enter our country illegally at risk,” the lawmakers wrote in a letter to USCIS director Ur Jaddou Tuesday.
A recent report from conservative opposition research firm American Accountability Foundation cited a slew of examples in which Osorio made numerous social media posts puffing up migrants. Fox News first reported AAF’s findings.
“Undocumented immigrants play an important role in US infrastructure,” one TikTok post from Osorio unearthed by AAF said, citing a family from El Salvador. “I was also told that despite not having papers, they pay their taxes to Uncle Sam.”
Osorio’s social media posts of that nature began around July, but his accounts have since been switched to private.
“The American Dream is alive and well. This is the story of a Honduran immigrant who entered the United States illegally [around] 20 years ago. With hard work and dedication, he is now the owner of an expanding restaurant which brings in over $1 million in sales,” another social media post he made on his Instagram said, per a screenshot from AAF.
One video description written in Spanish from Ososrio translated to: “In the US you work hard for your money but crossing the border was worth it. Thanks to my work here, I built a house in Honduras and I will soon be moving back.”
Mace was joined in the demand for his termination by Reps. Andy Harris (R-Md.), Ralph Norman (R-SC) and Jeff Duncan (R-SC).
The lawmakers stressed that Osorio’s posts came “while receiving his taxpayer-funded salary from USCIS, the agency charged with overseeing lawful immigration.”
They also underscored the repercussions of illegal immigration, calling it a “scourge on our nation” and noted that since fiscal year 2021, US Customs and Border Patrol has “encountered at least 392 illegal aliens on the terrorist watchlist.”
“We have already seen countless American citizens assaulted, raped, and murdered by illegal aliens who have no right to be in our country. These criminal aliens who enter our country illegally—which is being
encouraged by Wilson Osorio—pose a serious threat to American citizens,” they added.
Prior to joining USCIS, Osorio worked as an immigration counsel to current Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Durbin (D-Ill.)
“Encouraging illegal immigration is not compassionate, it is cruel. The treacherous journey for illegal aliens from Latin America to the United States is controlled by criminal cartels and coyotes, who force illegal aliens, including women and children, into indentured servitude, sex slavery, and drug trafficking to pay their way to the United States,” the lawmakers added.
The Post contacted DHS and USCIS for comment.
AAF released its findings on Osorio alongside a new website titled “The DHS Watchlist” listing out scores of government officials it described as “radical leftist” bureaucrats that could remain holdovers from the Biden-Harris administration.
A DHS spokesperson blasted AAF’s list at the time, telling The Post, “We strongly condemn any effort to harass government officials, or any American, in this heightened threat environment.”
