Heroes, zeroes from Giants’ Week 2 loss: Defense didn’t force a single stop against Brian Robinson, Commanders

Heroes, zeros and the full blitz from the Giants’ 21-18 loss to the Commanders on Sunday:

Hero

Kicker Austin Seibert, who was signed earlier in the week, went 7-for-7 on field goals and kicked the game-winning 30-yard field goal as time expired.

Giants

Zeroes

General manager Joe Schoen, head coach Brian Daboll, kicker Graham Gano and punter Jamie Gillan — anyone who had a hand in the Giants’ decision to play an injured Gano with no insurance policy and then be left without a reliable kicker once Gano got further injured and Gillan missed a PAT.

It cost the Giants about six points.

Unsung Hero

Brian Robinson rushed 133 yards on 17 carries, carving up the Giants defense that was supposed to be built around stopping the run. The Commanders gained 215 yards on the ground.

Key Stat

0: Defensive stops by the Giants.

The Commanders scored field goals on all seven of their true possessions (other than the kneel-down at the end of the half) and possessed the ball for 37:32.

Quote of the Day

“When we have somebody by the throat, we have to finish them off. I feel like our competitive stamina needs to heighten in that aspect.”
