Prosecutors may use the same high-tech DNA that linked accused serial killer Rex Heuermann to seven butchered sex workers to ID another Gilgo Beach body that has stumped investigators for decades.
Suffolk County prosecutors are hoping that a new microbial DNA analysis could solve the mystery of “Asian Doe,” an Asian man in drag whose remains were found dumped in 2011 along a desolate stretch of waterfront where some of Heuermann’s alleged victims were discovered, Newsday first reported.
Suffolk District Attorney Ray Tierney told the outlet that the victim is believed to be between 17 and 23 years old and likely from outside the county — part of the reason the case has baffled police for so long.
“We are always seeking to identify those names of victims of crime,” Tierney said in a statement to The Post. “Here, we have been unable to identify this Gilgo homicide victim to date.
“We are hoping that emerging DNA technologies, such as microbial DNA, will help us bridge that gap and give a name to this victim,” the statement said.
Prosecutors said they have no indication that Heuermann is tied to the body — but are not ruling it out.
Investigators who have twice searched the hulking architect’s Massapequa Park home said they uncovered sick computer files, including online searches for “asian escorts manhattan” and “young twink tied up porn” — suggesting a possible connection.
Asian Doe is one of 11 bodies found dumped along a dark stretch of Ocean Parkway since the 1990s.
Prosecutors have released facial reconstruction images and pleaded for information from the public, but have yet to get a solid lead on the murdered man.
Meanwhile, Heuermann, 62, is awaiting trial in the deaths of seven sex workers whose bodies were dumped along desolate stretches of Long Island between 1993 and 2010.
Tierney has said DNA tied Heuermann to Valerie Mack, 24, Jessica Taylor, 20, Megan Waterman, 22, Melissa Barthelemy, 24, Marueen Brainard-Barnes, 25, Amber Lynn Costello, 27, and Sandra Costilla, 28.
The accused killer pleaded not guilty to the charges and has maintained his innocence.
