In a highly significant phone conversation, US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed a wide range of strategic topics, from the conflict in Ukraine to artificial intelligence and global geopolitics.

Trump described the call as “long and very productive,” emphasizing the importance of strengthening cooperation between both nations in the pursuit of peace.

Trump wrote:

«I just had a lengthy and highly productive phone call with President Vladimir Putin of Russia. We discussed Ukraine, the Middle East, Energy, Artificial Intelligence, the power of the Dollar, and various other subjects.

We both reflected on the Great History of our Nations, and the fact that we fought so successfully together in World War II, remembering, that Russia lost tens of millions of people, and we, likewise, lost so many!

We each talked about the strengths of our respective Nations, and the great benefit that we will someday have in working together. But first, as we both agreed, we want to stop the millions of deaths taking place in the War with Russia/Ukraine.

President Putin even used my very strong Campaign motto of, “COMMON SENSE.”

We both believe very strongly in it. We agreed to work together, very closely, including visiting each other’s nations. We have also agreed to have our respective teams start negotiations immediately, and we will begin by calling President Zelenskyy, of Ukraine, to inform him of the conversation, something which I will be doing right now.

I have asked Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Director of the CIA John Ratcliffe, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, and Ambassador and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, to lead the negotiations which, I feel strongly, will be successful.

Millions of people have died in a War that would not have happened if I were President, but it did happen, so it must end. No more lives should be lost!

I want to thank President Putin for his time and effort with respect to this call, and for the release, yesterday, of Marc Fogel, a wonderful man that I personally welcomed last night at the White House.

I believe this effort will lead to a successful conclusion, hopefully soon!

A call for peace in Ukraine .

One of the key points of the conversation was the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Trump and Putin agreed on the urgency of stopping the loss of millions of lives in a war that, according to Trump, “ would not have happened ” if he were in the White House. Both leaders expressed their commitment to finding a diplomatic solution and announced the immediate start of negotiations to end the hostilities.

In a gesture of unity, Putin even used Trump’s campaign slogan, “COMMON SENSE,” as a fundamental principle to guide the discussions. This detail highlights the alignment between both leaders in the need to seek pragmatic and effective solutions on a global scale.

Dialogue initiative with Ukraine .

As part of the agreement reached, Trump stated that he would contact Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to inform him about the content of his conversation with Putin. Additionally, he announced that he had appointed a high-level team to lead the negotiations, composed of:

• Marco Rubio, Secretary of State
• John Ratcliffe, CIA Director
• Michael Waltz, National Security Advisor
• Steve Witkoff, Ambassador and Special Envoy

Trump expressed his confidence that these negotiations would be successful and bring an end to the conflict, emphasizing that “ no more lives should be lost.”

A new era of cooperation .

Beyond Ukraine, the conversation also covered other crucial topics, such as the influence of the dollar in the global economy, the development of artificial intelligence, and energy security. Both leaders reflected on the history of their countries, recalling their alliance during World War II and the human losses both nations suffered in that conflict.

As a gesture of goodwill, Putin agreed to the release of Marc Fogel, a US citizen detained in Russia, whom Trump personally welcomed at the White House upon his arrival in the US This act is seen as a first step toward rebuilding closer relations between the two nations.

Next steps: Visits and negotiations .

As part of the agreement, Trump and Putin plan to visit each other’s nations in the future, strengthening bilateral dialogue. Meanwhile, their teams will immediately begin negotiations to advance the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine.

Trump concluded his statement by thanking Putin for his time and effort on this initiative, reiterating his hope that this process will soon lead to a “successful conclusion” that restores stability to the region.

This dialogue marks a key moment in global geopolitics and could open the door to a new chapter in relations between the United States, Russia, and Ukraine.
