A man with a long rap sheet dating back to 2001 punched an elderly man and shoved him onto the train tracks in Chicago on Monday morning.
39-year-old Tommie Carter was arrested and charged with attempted murder after he beat a senior citizen and knocked him onto the train tracks at the Blue Line station in Forest Park, Illinois.
The victim was found lying on the train tracks and transported to Loyola University Medical Center.
Police said Carter spat on them as they took him into custody.
Carter was also charged with three felony counts of aggravated battery to a police officer, CBS News reported.
CBS Chicago reported:
A Chicago man has been charged with attempted murder, accused of punching a senior citizen and knocking him onto the tracks at a CTA Blue Line station in west suburban Forest Park.
Forest Park police said, around 8:30 a.m. Monday, officers responded to a call of a battery at the Harlem Avenue stop on the Blue Line.
Officers found a senior citizen lying on the tracks and were given a description of the man who attacked him.
A Blue Line train operator had spotted the victim on the tracks and was able to stop the train before hitting him. Police said the victim narrowly avoided coming into contact with the electrified third rail powering trains.
The victim was taken to Loyola University Medical Center for treatment.
A short time later, police spotted a man matching the suspect’s description on the platform and tried to take him into custody. After a brief struggle, police were able to take 39-year-old Tommie O. Carter into custody.

Last month, a black man with 49 prior arrests doused a white woman with a flammable liquid and set her on fire on a Chicago train.
50-year-old Lawrence Reed was hit with federal terrorism charges after he set a 26-year-old woman on fire aboard the Blue Line last month.
Reed repeatedly shouted, “Burn b*tch!” as the victim rolled around trying to put out the fire.
Good Samaritans eventually helped put out the fire.
The victim was hospitalized with severe injuries.
