Husband of Lynette Hooker — American woman who vanished in Bahamas — to remain behind bars as cops weigh criminal charges

The husband of missing American boater Lynette Hooker won’t learn until Monday whether he will face charges in the disappearance of his wife after she went overboard while the couple was boating in the Bahamas, police announced Friday night.

Brian Hooker, 59, will remain behind bars in Freeport until at least 7 p.m. Monday, as the Royal Bahamas Police Force weighs criminal charges, Fox News Digital reported.

Police decided to hold Hooker nearly a week after his 55-year-old wife disappeared during a dingy ride Saturday night, his lawyer, Terrel A. Butler, told the outlet.

Police were up against a 7:20 p.m. Friday night deadline — Bahamian law requires anyone in custody to be released if they are not charged within 48 hours — to press charges against Hooker, set him free or request an extension to keep him behind bars after taking him into custody on Wednesday.

Hooker was grilled over the couple’s Bahamas trip and the hours before his wife went overboard — along with explosive claims from stepdaughter Karli Aylesworth, 28, accusing him of volatile behavior toward her mother, Butler told the outlet.

Lynette’s frantic daughter told multiple outlets this week that she feared something sinister may have happened at sea — alluding to a “history of domestic violence.”

Aylesworth told Fox News that her aggressive stepfather had previously threatened to throw her mom overboard, noting a “history of him choking her.”

“Their relationship has been a lot of fighting and drinking lately,” she told CBS, adding that she doesn’t believe her stepdad’s version of events.

“So I’m just kind of questioning what actually went on in that dinghy.”

Hooker, who denies any involvement in his wife’s disappearance, has also “categorically denied” Aylesworth’s allegations, his lawyer said.

Records from more than a decade ago show that Lynette, a Michigan native, was once arrested and spent the night in jail after getting into a physical fight with her husband.

She was quickly released due “insufficient evidence as to who started the assault,” according to the report.

In recent weeks, the couple, who posted on social media under the moniker The Sailing Hookers, documented their adventures – where they were seen on their yacht, snorkeling and scuba diving.

But during Saturday’s boat ride, Lynette fell into the water with the boat key, cutting off the engine, before being carried away by a strong current and out of her husband’s sight, according to authorities.

With the engine off, Hooker was forced to paddle back to shore. He returned early the next morning and reported his wife missing.

Failed efforts to find her have altered the search from a rescue to recovery operation.
