Indiana has found Fernando Mendoza’s successor.
Former TCU quarterback Josh Hoover has committed to play for the Hoosiers and is likely to start next season, with Mendoza expected to enter the NFL draft and be the No. 1 pick.
No official announcement has been made, but Hoover shared reports from CBS Sports and On3 on his Instagram account about the news.
Hoover announced he would be entering the transfer portal in mid-December after spending four seasons at TCU, where he became the starting quarterback during the 2023 campaign.
“First, I want to thank God for the opportunities that he has blessed me with to play this game,” Hoover wrote in a statement announcing his decision at the time. “I’m so thankful to have had the opportunity to represent TCU for an incredible 4 years. It has been a dream to be able to play and graduate from this university and I will forever be grateful for that.”
“I want to Thank Coach [Sonny] Dykes for giving me the opportunity to play at TCU. I want to thank Coach [Kendal] Briles and the rest of the coaching staff for pushing me to be my best on and off the Lastly, I want to thank my teammates for all of the memories that we’ve shared together. This place has allowed me to meet some of my best friends, and I will always be grateful for that.

During his career at TCU, Hoover threw for 9,629 yards and 71 touchdowns, including 16 career 300-yard games and three games with 400 yards.
Hoover set a TCU record with 3,949 passing yards in 2024, and this past season, he threw for 3,472 yards and 29 touchdowns.
The Horned Frogs went 7-4 this past season.
Indiana and the Heisman Trophy-winning Mendoza have had one of the best seasons in program history, and they’re a win away from reaching the national championship game for the first time ever when they face Oregon in the College Football Playoff semifinals Jan. 9.
