Iranian drones launched a massive attack against Kuwait just hours after the announcement of a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran.
According to the Kuwaiti Army, air defenses intercepted an intense wave of enemy drones starting at 8:00 a.m. local time (05:00 GMT), although several managed to strike strategic targets.
The Kuwaiti Armed Forces confirmed that they intercepted a total of 28 drones and that some were specifically directed against “vital oil facilities, power plants, and water desalination plants” in the south of the country.
The Ministry of Defense detailed that the impacts caused “significant material damage” to the energy infrastructure, with no fatalities reported so far.
This new episode occurs in the midst of a fragile truce announced by President Donald Trump and accepted by Tehran, mediated by Pakistan. Iranian state media, such as IRIB, justified the attacks as retaliation for alleged previous bombings on the oil island of Lavan, on Iranian territory.
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted firmly and demanded that Iran and its proxies “immediately cease all hostilities.” Diplomatic sources consulted by Reuters and Al Jazeera agree that the attack highlights the low credibility of agreements with the ayatollahs’ regime.
The official statement from the Kuwaiti Army on X is clear: “Since 8:00 a.m. we are responding to intense hostile Iranian attacks.”
