Jalen Hurts’ mother, Pamela Hurts, offered a positive message Monday night just hours after her son’s season ended due to multiple blood clots on his lungs.
“Just a reminder y’all, be grateful,” Pamela said in a TikTok video in which she seemingly walked around a residence while filming hardwood. “Be grateful for where you are and what you have because your life could change at a blink of an eye. Be grateful. What are you grateful for?”
The Hurts family is dealing with a significant scare after further testing revealed a more serious situation facing the Super Bowl-winning quarterback than initially believed.
Hurts, 28, originally was diagnosed by London specialists with a left calf superficial vein thrombosis, which is a blood clot in the left calf, after undergoing an ultrasound prior to the Week 5 loss to the Jaguars, according to a statement released Monday by the team and his agent Nicole Lynn.
He played in a 19-17 loss to Jacksonville in London despite only sleeping for roughly seven and a half hours due to being in the hospital before the game, according to ESPN.
Further testing revealed that Hurts suffered from deep vein thrombosis and a bilateral pulmonary emboli, which are blood clots on the lungs, per the statement.
Hurts is expected to be sidelined for at least three months, per ESPN, which means in a best-case scenario he could return mid-playoffs.
“He is clinically stable and has no significant functional limitations. His treatment should only involve anticoagulation [i.e., ‘blood thinners’],” the release said. “During this time, he will not be allowed to participate in any contact activities, including football. Jalen’s prognosis is very good, and we expect a full recovery. We anticipate that he will have the opportunity to resume contact football activities when off the blood thinners. In the meantime, he will remain active around the team and continue to condition. More importantly, we anticipate that he will have no long-term effects.”
The Eagles first revealed the seriousness of the situation facing Hurts last Thursday when they announced he would miss the Week 6 home contest against the Panthers due to a blood clot in his calf.
A team statement at the time said Hurts requested treatment on his calf on Oct. 8 after saying he had been cleated during the Oct. 4 home loss to the Rams.
A follow-up ultrasound last Wednesday revealed movement in the blood clot, per the team, and he was ruled out for Sunday’s game.
Two days later he landed on injured reserve, which carries a minimum absence of four games.
“It was a very unique experience, to say the least,” Hurts said last week before the blood clot was revealed publicly. “I don’t want to get into the details of kind of leading up to the game and whatnot, but got nicked up in the Rams game.”
The Eagles turned to Tanner McKee in Hurts’ absence and fell 25-14 to Carolina to drop to 2-4, and they are tied for second with the Cowboys behind the Giants in the NFC East.
Hurts has been a constant for Philadelphia since becoming the team’s starting quarterback late in the 2020 season, starting at least 15 games in each of the last five seasons.
He led the team to two Super Bowl appearances in that span, including a Super Bowl 2025 triumph against the Chiefs in a rematch of the Super Bowl 2023 loss to Kansas City.
Philadelphia next hosts the Cowboys on “Monday Night Football” in Week 7 in a game that could ultimately define both team’s seasons.
