Jets coach Aaron Glenn says Kris Boyd ‘in good spirits’ after being shot

Jets coach Aaron Glenn had a chance to speak with Kris Boyd shortly after he was shot on Sunday morning in Manhattan and said the player was upbeat.

“That’s what eases my mind is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he’ll walk away from this just fine.”

Glenn said he spoke to Boyd on Sunday. His initial thoughts were about Boyd’s family.

“Once I heard about the situation, the first thing I thought about was he just had a kid,” Glenn said. “I’m thinking about is wife. I’m thinking about his kid. I want to make sure that he’s OK. That’s the only thing that really went through my mind. And anybody else that was involved, make sure those guys are OK.”

The Jets signed Boyd in the offseason to be a special teams contributor. He also plays cornerback.

Boyd injured his shoulder in training camp and has not played at all this season. Glenn said even though Boyd has not been on the field, he has helped the younger players on the team.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn said. “He comes to the games all the time. He’s fully engaged. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”
