New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd was upgraded to stable condition and provided an encouraging update on Instagram Wednesday, days after he was shot in the abdomen outside a Manhattan restaurant.
A New York Police Department spokesman announced Boyd’s upgraded health status Wednesday afternoon. Boyd was initially listed in critical but stable condition after being shot Sunday morning on an off day for the Jets.

“God is real, God is powerful!,” Boyd wrote.
“I’m sorry I have no words at the moment..Just grateful!
“I’m coming along, starting to breathe on my own now. Sincerely appreciate everyone!”
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said Wednesday that he’s spoken with Boyd and was happy to see his improved condition.
“The first thing I thought about, he just had a kid and I’m thinking about his wife, I’m thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that he’s OK,” Glenn said, via ESPN’s Rich Cimini. “And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind … I’m happy the fact that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”
Boyd has undergone multiple procedures to remove a bullet from his right lung, according to ABC News.
On Tuesday, police released images of a man they are seeking in the investigation. No arrests have been made.
According to ABC News, Boyd and his friends got into an altercation outside of the restaurant with a group of people that included the man police are seeking. A shot was fired during the scuffle and Boyd was hit. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital.

Boyd signed a one-year, $1.6 million deal with the Jets this offseason after two seasons with the Houston Texans. He was placed on injured reserve in August with a shoulder injury, however, and has not played since.
The Jets did not play Sunday. They fell to the New England Patriots in Massachusetts on Thursday night, which dropped them to 2-8 on the season. They will be back in action Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.
