Jets’ ‘losing problem’ starting to weigh on Garrett Wilson: ‘Like a gene or some s–t’

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Garrett Wilson has now lost 10 games in each of his three seasons with the Jets — 7-10, 7-10, 3-10 (and counting).

“When you’re up in the fourth quarter, all of a sudden it starts to feel like you have a losing problem,” Wilson said after Dolphins 32, Jets 26 in OT. “It’s like you have like a gene or some s–t.

“It’s not like we’re going out there and getting our butt beat from start to finish … no no no, we have a chance to go win the game, we’re supposed to win the game, odds are in our favor and we’re finding a way to lose the game. So it’s just frustrating for sure.”

He was asked if it is a mindset.

“Nah, I don’t think it’s the mindset, the mindset is the opposite, whether or not you can make right on your mindset is different. If you can match your actions up with your mindset is two different things,” Wilson said.

Even shadowed by Jalen Ramsey, Wilson (seven catches for 114 yards) and Davante Adams (9-109-1 TD) gave Aaron Rodgers a chance to win.

Instead, the Jets were eliminated from the playoffs for the 14th straight time.

“At the end of the day, we gotta stop being losers,” Wilson said.

“It’s just one or those years, man,” Adams said. “It’s just weird. Typically you work as hard as we do, it’s supposed to lead to wins. It can kinda be demoralizing a little bit but I just try to let everybody know my mindset is keep going, regardless of the circumstance, regardless of the record, we’re playing for our pride at this point.”

Adams tries hard to be a voice of reason and wisdom.

“It’s really difficult to win, and we’ve been really really close too many times,” he said. “Some is more frustrating when you’re right there. But all you get to do is go and control how you play and you don’t get to control the score and complain about it and cry about it later. You got 60 seconds to figure it out, then once that 60 minutes is up, whoever got the most, they’re the team that’s gonna be the happiest.”

Or 60 minutes plus.

“If you look at the stats, I guess that’s a good game, but at the end of the day, there were plays we left on the field, we coulda went out and won the game and not relied on our defense, not gave them a chance to go down there and do what they eventually did,” Wilson said. “We gotta judge it that way. There’s no moral victories in this thing.

“Winning the offseason is winning the offseason, winning training camp is winning training camp. Let’s win when it matters.”
