It’s the type of behavior that’s acceptable when you are playing the Titans.
Joe Burrow opened up about his heated sideline exchange with head coach Zac Taylor during the Bengals’ 37-27 win over a hapless Tennessee team Sunday.
Burrow appeared to say “f–king embarrassing” when on the sidelines with the team up 37-21 in the fourth quarter.
“You have the luxury of being a little emotional on the sideline in that situation because the game’s out of reach,” Burrow said, according to Cincinnati.com. “You don’t have to go back out there to make a play to win the game.”
Despite the relatively easy win against the 3-11 Titans, Burrow did throw two uncharacteristic interceptions that helped Tennessee jump out to a 14-7 lead.
“I could probably do a better job of keeping my emotions in check in that situation,” Burrow said. “Like I said, it wasn’t directed at Zac. Just a display of frustration of the day that I had, that we had as an offense, how sloppy it was and we’ve had those discussion in-house about what needs to be better.”
it has been an otherwise brilliant season for Burrow, who leads the NFL with 3,977 yards and 36 passing touchdowns.
However, the team has struggled to a 6-8 record and would need three wins and a lot else to go right down the stretch to make the playoffs.
“When things are good and good enough, to do what we want to do, then I try to verbalize that,” Burrow said when asked if those sorts of fiery outbursts could inspire teammates. “When things aren’t up to standard, in my opinion, I try to verbalize that as well. I probably could have done that in a better way on Sunday. I just hold myself and I hold our team to a high standard … It started with myself on Sunday. I got really frustrated at the turnovers I was having. And then we piled on top of that with some mental mistakes, both from myself and from everybody else.”
It was a challenging week for Burrow after his home was robbed during a “Monday Night Football” win over the Cowboys.
Olivia Ponton, an Instagram model, was the one who called 9-1-1 when she arrived back at the quarterback’s home.
It was later revealed they had been “hooking up” for months.
“I feel like my privacy has been violated in more ways than one,” Burrow said. “And way more is already out there than I would want out there and that I care to share, so that’s all I got to say about that.”
