The Packers might have more than a Week 1 loss to worry about.
Not only did Green Bay fall in Brazil to the Eagles, 34-29, but franchise quarterback Jordan Love appeared to suffer a lower-body injury on the final series of the game, limping off the field with help from the team at Corinthians Arena.
“We know what kind of guy he is, how he approaches everything,” wide receiver Christian Watson said. “Whatever it is, I know he’s going to get through it. We’re going to get through it.”
The injury came just after Love had thrown a 33-yard completion to Jayden Reed to get the Packers near midfield.
On the next play with just under 20 seconds remaining, Love faced major pressure from Jalen Carter and Josh Sweat as he threw a backward pass to Josh Jacobs that went for a 4-yard gain.
Carter was lying down and had a hold of Love’s left leg when Sweat pushed the quarterback to the ground.
The Packers training staff attended to him as he stayed down on the ground.
He eventually came off gingerly, getting support from two staffers.
“That’s the franchise right there,” defensive lineman Kenny Clark said. “Hopefully, he can be back next week and he can be all right.”
After the game, head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters he was not certain about Love’s status or a potential injury.
“I don’t know. I don’t know,” he said, per ESPN.
Backup Malik Willis took over for the final two plays, throwing an incompletion before taking a game-ending sack.
Once players converged on the field after the final whistle, Love did not immediately get up from the Packers bench, where Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts met him for a final handshake.
Peacock cameras showed Love getting help off the field and into the tunnel after that moment.
Love, on the heels of signing a $220 million contract extension in the offseason, finished the game with 260 passing yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the loss.
