San Francisco 49ers wideout Kendrick Bourne was a bit too candid while celebrating after hitting a $500,000 bonus for passing 500 receiving yards during the season.
During the third quarter of the 49ers’ thrilling 42-38 “Sunday Night Football” win over the Bears at Levi’s Stadium, NBC sideline reporter Melissa Stark said on the broadcast that Bourne’s wife was glad his bonus triggered in a 48-27 win against the Colts last Sunday because it was right before Christmas.
“It was perfect timing right before Christmas because he said, ‘My wife Vanessa is expensive, so she was just as happy as I was,” Stark said.
“Yes, Vanessa, he sold you out.”
NBC Sports play-by-play announcer Mike Tirico and analyst Cris Collinsworth couldn’t help but laugh.
“He’s dead,” Collinsworth quipped, while Tirico said, “Exactly. Did he not know this was on the record, talking to Melissa?”
The 30-year-old Bourne added that he was so excited to celebrate his bonus with his teammates that he forgot to keep the game ball.
The couple tied the knot in March 2023.
Vanessa joked about Stark’s commentary in a video on the National Football Wives Instagram Story.
“I have $87 dollars to my name, I don’t know what I’m going to do,” Vanessa said in a meme video, which included her husband.
“Me hinting to my man to give me money,” she wrote in text over the clip. “My response to what the commentator said about me on ‘SNF.’”
Bourne, who agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $5 million with the Niners in September, could earn another $250,000 incentive if he reaches 600 yards on his current deal.
Bourne currently sits at 551 yards after a one-catch game against the Bears.
He signed with the 49ers after he was released by the Patriots in August.
He began his NFL career with San Francisco in 2017 after going undrafted out of Eastern Washington.
The 49ers (12-4) play host to the division rival Seattle Seahawks (13-3) on Saturday with the winner locking up the top seed in the NFC.
