We could try to console you, if you are seeking consolation today. We can tell you to look at Oklahoma City, which not so long ago seemed destined to splinter the 2016 Warriors record of 73-9, yet has now gone 6-6 in its last 12 and somehow lost by 27 points, at home, to the 12-23 Hornets Monday night.
Feel better? No, probably not.
We could attempt to remind you that just because a team careens off the road for a stretch, it really can find the highway again. You probably won’t believe this, but from July 4 through Aug. 13 last year, the Dodgers were 12-21. That’s a .363 winning percentage, or roughly the pace the 102-loss White Sox maintained over the full season. You can recover from a funk.
(And, yes, you may quickly counter that the funk the Mets commenced on June 13 didn’t end at 1-10, or 19-33, or 31-49, but lasted all the way to the final game of the season, when the skid finally hit 38-55. Sometimes, the funk funkifies you for good.)
