A Long Island school board meeting ended in chaos after the district’s interim superintendent called the police on the board’s newly selected president — because he “poked” her, according to reports.
Freeport school district’s Interim Superintendent Shakirah Miller dialed 911 and filed a police report against Michael Pomerico on Wednesday night, who was just voted-in by the board as president, after he allegedly poked her during a heated exchange following a routine meeting at Caroline G. Atkinson Elementary School, according to the Freeport Herald.
Following the heated school board meeting, Pomerico — who was standing over Miller — asked her about obtaining some district-related documents before the conversation grew tense, causing Miller to stand up from her seat as the alleged poking happened, the outlet reported.
After being finger jabbed, Miller was furious at Pomerico, accusing him of “laying hands on her,” and then called 911, prompting officers to rush to the scene, according to the outlet.
Pomerico claimed his poke was nothing more than a light tap on Miller with his index finger in an effort to get her attention, the outlet reported.
Cops interviewed both Miller and Pomerico as well as the school’s board members and even the outlet’s reporter who watched the entire incident unfold, and made no arrests nor charged Pomerico with any crimes or violations, according to the report.
The poking incident served as the cherry-on-top to an already tense board meeting, which was packed out by attendees and riddled with loud cheers, boos, and misconduct allegations lobbed by those in attendance and even between trustees throughout the night, according to a recording of the July 1 meeting.
Miller and Pomerico didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment. The Freeport police did not respond to an inquiry from The Post Sunday.
