Breanna Stewart walked off the Barclays Center court with a white towel draped over her head Friday night.
It was the parting image of the Liberty’s 85-83 season-ending loss to the Atlanta Dream in the semifinals.
Not only was this the first time in Stewart’s WNBA career she had been swept in a multi-game series, but it also marked the first time New York was swept in a best-of-five series.
“I was getting a little bit emotional walking off the court with our fans because I know how much they have our back and they really ride for us,” Stewart said. “And my focus was today … I wanted for us to continue to have a shot and extend this season and play for our fans.”
