Luigi Mangione reveals the twisted way he tricked victim’s company into helping plot sick murder scheme

Admitted killer Luigi Mangione revealed Friday that he posed as a United Healthcare investor to track down and shoot CEO Brain Thompson in a sick murder scheme.

The disclosure came as Mangione, 28, read a written statement in Manhattan federal court detailing his assassination plot against Thompson, 50, as a meticulously planned act of revenge.

Mangione said after becoming disgruntled by the nation’s health insurance industry, he learned that UnitedHealthcare would hold its annual investor conference in New York City during December 2024.

He then traveled to Manhattan in November — but didn’t know the exact location where the conference would be held.

“I then emailed United Healthcare leadership posing as an investor at a firm managing $50 billion in assets and requesting information to [the] health conference,” Mangione said.

“Unlike my previous interactions with insurers, I received an immediate response within an hour.”

Mangione said he used info from that email to find and fatally shoot Thompson with a homemade weapon.

“Before traveling to New York, I used a 3D printer to make a gun. I equipped the gun with a silencer and a magazine,” he said. “I traveled to New York to UnitedHealth with the intent to shoot Brain Thompson.”

Thompson’s widow, Paulette, 53, meanwhile sobbed silently in court.

The cold-blooded killer said he hatched the murder plot after suffering severe back pain and growing furious at the health insurance company.

“After years of enduring severe pain from a broken back, navigating obstacles of the health insurance system, and witnessing some of those experiences of countless others, I learned United Healthcare would be holding its annual investor conference in New York City on December 4, 2024 although the specific location was not publicly disclosed,” he said.

Mangione pleaded guilty during a Friday hearing to two federal stalking charges that carry up to life in prison.
