The Mets have multiple relievers to trade. The Pirates need multiple relievers and among those they are at least curious about are Huascar Brazobán and Luke Weaver, The Post has learned.
The Mets began on Thursday night what could be the biggest sell off in the majors before Monday’s deadline by trading a reliever, A.J. Minter, to the Twins for prospect infielders Bruin Agbayani and Billy Amick.
Teams that have been talking to the Mets anticipate that they are likely to follow a traditional path for sellers – clear their walk-year players such as Minter and fellow lefty reliever Brooks Raley. Freddy Peralta was scheduled to start Friday night against the Marlins, but with interest in him picking up the Mets scratched him. Clay Holmes is currently scheduled to start Sunday, perhaps still in the minors. Righty-hitting outfielders Luis Robert Jr. and Tyrone Taylor also are in their walk years.
The anticipation is that would create time and greater focus for David Stearns to see if the Mets can ratchet up a return that would motivate trading players currently excelling and with control beyond this year, notably Brazobán and Weaver.
