French President Emmanuel Macron blamed a mysterious eye condition for showing up at the World Economic Forum in a pair of dark aviator glasses — before laying into President Trump.
Addressing the global gathering in Davos, Switzerland on Tuesday, Macron claimed Trump’s recent actions on the world stage “openly aim to weaken and subordinate Europe.”
“We do prefer respect to bullies,” Macron said. “And we do prefer rule of law to brutality.”

Trump has found himself at odds with European leaders over his efforts to purchase Greenland from Denmark — and has called for a new round of tariffs for their opposition.
The French president called Washington’s “endless accumulation” of tariffs “fundamentally unacceptable,” adding, “even more so when they are used as leverage against territorial sovereignty.”
The European Union leaders announced over the weekend they would meet in Brussels later this week for an emergency summit on the standoff with the US over Greenland.
Macron has also urged the European Union to consider using its Anti-Coercion Instrument — better known as the group’s “trade bazooka” — which would could restrict trade with the US for the first time.

Meanwhile, he blamed his bizarre aviator specs on a burst eye vessel — and said the glasses were an effort to cover up his “unsightly” red and puffy eyes, The Hill said in a report Tuesday.
“Simply see an unintentional reference to the ‘Eye of the Tiger,’” he said, referring to the tune by the band Survivor, best known as the title tune from the hit movie, Rockie III. “For those who catch the reference, it is a sign of determination,” Macron said.
