IRVINE, CA — A local man found himself at a crossroads today, as he was torn between working from home and being interrupted by his kids and working at the office and being interrupted by his coworkers.
“If I work from home I can basically roll out of bed and be at my desk,” noted Ben Canton, a maintenance planner with Southern California Edison. “On the other hand, at the office I can — “
While speaking about his dilemma, Canton was interrupted by his 5-year-old son, who jumped out of a nearby closet and pretended to attack him with a ninja sword.
Later that day at the office, Canton said, “After COVID, I have so much more freedom in where I can work. Most people think being at home is great, but the office still has its merits. For example — “
An unidentified colleague then barged in, disrupting the interview, “Hank, did you catch the game last night? Padres! Wait, you’re not Hank…”
At home, Canton was able to further explain from behind a locked bathroom door. Though the sound of stamping feet running back and forth down the hallway sounded like an insane asylum, Canton appeared at peace.
“You know, it really doesn’t matter where I go,” he said, appearing to reach an epiphany. “I can’t get anything done either way.”
At publishing time, Ben Canton had finished his workday at Starbucks.
