Twenty fire and EMS units, with 78 members, descended on the scene – knocking down the flames by about 3:15 a.m., department officials said.

About 215 hotel rooms were occupied at the time of the fire – and those who evacuated have since been able to return, according to FDNY.

Allyson Stone Hattem – who lives behind the hotel – told LoudLabsNewsNYC that she and many of her fellow building residents evacuated on their own.

“My husband actually looked out our back window, and I think the noise woke him up, and we saw the entire tent of the Bar Bedford’s backyard area completely up in flames,” she said, referring to an establishment in the hotel’s lobby. “[We] grabbed both of our two children, I put my wedding jewelry on and ran outside of the apartment. So we’re all just waiting with our neighbors outside the apartment.”
