A teen mom from Washington state allegedly filmed an upbeat TikTok video as her infant son was dying from “abusive head trauma” — that she and the baby’s dad are accused of inflicting, according to reports.
Alyssa Jade Vanderbeck, 19, and Mark Anthony Labaco Clamor, 21, were hit with second-degree murder charges, and Clamor with additional homicide abuse raps, for the death of their 7-week-old son earlier this month, according to court records obtained by People.
The couple allegedly waited an hour before calling 911 for their wounded infant on March 4, with Clamor telling a dispatcher that his son was not breathing, authorities wrote in the probable cause affidavit.
The less than 2-month-old child was brought to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma in critical condition with “subdural hemorrhages, anoxic brain injury, retinal hemorrhages, and possible healing rib fractures,” the court document states.
Doctors determined the baby — identified as “N.C.” in court records — was not expected to survive. His parents had gone home by the time cops showed up at the hospital a day later to investigate his injuries as possible child abuse, the affidavit states.
After the parents returned to the hospital, a cop “found their demeanor to be unusual considering the gravity of the suspected offense and the condition their child was in,” according to the filing.
Investigators also found a chilling TikTok video of Vanderbeck “slowly dancing in the bathroom of N.C.’s hospital room” to upbeat music that she posted to the platform on March 8, the report said.
The couple’s child died March 9, five days after he was taken to the hospital, and an autopsy ruled his preliminary cause of death as homicide due to abusive head trauma — a form of child abuse caused by violent shaking, hitting or throwing a baby.
Clamor allegedly later admitted to Lakewood Police Department officers that he jerked his son in a “manner that he realized was rough” after the child became “fussy,” and that his head had jolted back “pretty hard,” according to the affidavit.
He said he had tried to catch the infant’s head and pulled him to his chest, the outlet reported.
Vanderbeck woke up later that day as Clamor was putting their son down for a nap. The couple took a shower together, after which the young mom noticed her baby making “grunting noises” and then appearing unresponsive, the affidavit stated.
She saw Clamor try “to rouse N.C. by stimulating him physically, which included shaking him in a panic,” according to the court doc.
Vanderbeck then filmed her distressed baby, sending videos to her parents and others for advice and asking for their help, authorities alleged.
The two parents were being held on a $1 million bond, court records showed.
