New wildfire explodes near site of massive California blaze as dozens evacuated from their homes

A wildfire broke out in Big Sur as another nearby blaze continues to grow, forcing evacuation orders and the planned closure of scenic Highway 1.

The Plaskett Fire, which started on Forest Road 23S10 east of Los Burros Road, had scorched 140 acres as of Thursday morning, according to CalFire.

The blaze led authorities to issue evacuation orders and warnings in the area, with at least 28 people forced from their homes, KSBW reported.

The blaze began as the Timber Fire in Big Sur had burned more than 19,000 acres as of Thursday morning after sparking back on August 9.
