At least seven Olympians from several different countries have denounced the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for issuing a weak statement in response to the Iranian regime murdering teenage wrestler Saleh Mohammadi.
The Iranian regime reportedly hanged Mohammadi last Thursday along with two other men after “being accused of killing two police officers during nationwide protests earlier this year,” the judiciary-linked Mizan news agency reported. Mohammadi, who won a bronze medal at the Saytiyev International Cup in Russia, had previously expressed a desire to compete in the Olympics.
In response to his hanging, the IOC said it could not issue a detailed comment due to conflicting information.
“It is very difficult to comment on situations of individuals during a conflict or unrest in a country without the IOC being able to verify the often contradicting information,” the IOC said.
