Panthers safety Tre’von Moehrig has been suspended for hitting 49ers receiver Jauan Jennings in the groin after a play in the fourth quarter of San Francisco’s 20-9 “Monday Night Football” win.
After the game, Jennings walked over to Moehrig and slapped him in the face, leading to players and coaches stepping in to separate them in a wild scene.
Moehrig is appealing the one-game unsportsmanlike conduct ban, which would see him miss Sunday’s game against the Rams.

The NFL said Moehrig violated “Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1, which applies to ‘any act which is contrary to the generally understood principles of sportsmanship,’ including, among others, ‘throwing a punch, or a forearm, or kicking at an opponent.’”
The 26-year-old safety will plead his case to Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster or Jordy Nelson, the hearing officers jointly appointed and compensated by the NFL and NFLPA to decide appeals of on-field player discipline.
Jennings’ actions will be reviewed for a potential fine.

Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan said Moehrig took a “cheap shot” at his wideout during the game.
“The guy took a cheap shot and hit him in the balls. I was real proud of Jauan for not losing his mind out there,” Shanahan said postgame.
“I was just responding, to me, childish behavior. That’s all it was,” Jennings said.
Moehrig played down the situation.
“It ain’t really much to it, bro,” he told reporters in the locker room postgame. “It was just that. Like I said, I’ll take that one. He wanted to do a little dirty stuff, so it is what it is, man.”
