Traveling can get tricky for Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes and his girlfriend, Olivia “Livvy” Dunne.
Even in the offseason, the 2025 NL Cy Young winner works through a six-day training routine, telling the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he and Dunne “do not get mornings” together while traveling.
“I think Liv probably gets tired of traveling with me,” Skenes said in an interview Wednesday. “We might spend four days somewhere, but it’s really two because half of each day — the morning — is for me to train.
“We don’t get mornings. She can do whatever she needs to do in the morning. But we do not get mornings.”
This offseason, Skenes and Dunne, a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model, traveled to Italy, Hawaii, California, New Jersey and Buffalo.
The pair — who confirmed their romance in 2023 after meeting in college at LSU — spent time with star Bills quarterback Josh Allen before Buffalo’s 35-8 home win over the Jets in the regular-season finale on Jan. 4.
Skenes also enlisted the help of a catcher from the Buffalo-based Canisius University for a bullpen session at the Bills’ practice facility.
His six-day training routine is comprised of high-intensity bullpen with multiple innings, a day off, light throwing and lifting, a bullpen and another lift, then catch play, a primer lift and into another “game.”
Skenes emphasized discipline in his work ethic, adding that he enjoys a training space that prioritizes business over show.
“Guys want to get to the show, but the work is what got you there,” Skenes said. “The way I think about it, I want to do something bigger.”
The two-time MLB All-Star also prefers a quiet environment without music.
“Certainly not talking bad about any other facility, but it can become a social thing,” Skenes said. “This isn’t social.”
