Pit bulls rescued from feces-covered, foul-smelling home on Long Island

A Long Island woman kept two pit bulls inside a feces-filled, foul-smelling home — leaving detectives gagging as soon as they stepped inside, officials say.

Stacy Zimmer, 48, was slapped with multiple misdemeanor animal cruelty charges after investigators executed a search warrant at her Brentwood home Wednesday morning, according to the Suffolk County SPCA.

When detectives arrived at the home, the stench of feces, urine and rot were so pungent that they began to cough and gag, and their eyes stung, officials said. The home also allegedly reeked of ammonia.

The two neglected pit bulls were removed from the home and will be available for adoption at the Islip Animal Shelter.

A rep from the shelter told News 12 Long Island that the dogs were not malnourished and in decent shape — only needing a grooming and nail clipping.

Zimmer’s filthy living space was deemed unfit for human occupancy by the town of Smithtown Code Enforcement.
