Rams placing Myles Garrett on IR sends NFL world into frenzy

The Rams have endured a rough couple of days.

On Thursday, the Super Bowl favorites were bested by the 49ers in a 27-7 beatdown. On Sunday, the Rams are placing their biggest trade of the offseason — Myles Garrett — on Injured Reserve.

The reigning Defensive Player of the Year was extremely limited in training camp because of a knee injury. He will now undergo arthroscopic surgery on that very knee and is set to miss at least four weeks.

Garrett registered zeros across the board in his Rams debut in Australia, which was quite the uncharacteristic performance. Evidently, he wasn’t in full form and that has led many to question why the Rams decided to play the edge rusher in the season opener.

SHOCKER: Myles Garrett needs ‘scope cartilage surgery, gone 4-6 weeks. The injury gods are already saying no to the prohibitive SBowl favorites. Aaron Donald is thinking, “Wait, I didn’t sign back up for THIS.”

The two biggest trades of the offseason were Myles Garrett to the Rams and AJ Brown to the Patriots.

Both players have been placed on IR after just one game played.

I have a lot of questions for the #Rams in regards to Myles Garrett.

Now that a reported knee injury is putting him on injured reserve.

Sam Darnold hurt.

Myles Garrett hurt.

Let’s see if the divisional rivals can sustain big time injuries the same way the #49ers have.

Myles Garrett had 3 pressures, 0 sacks, 0 tackles, and 0 QB hits against the 49ers, his 4th career game without a tackle or QB hit.

The Rams’ playoff chances have dropped from 83% in the preseason to 51% entering Sunday’s games per ESPN Analytics. https://t.co/ZZ8cVzjQ4h

i have very harsh and unkind thoughts about my opinion on how the myles garrett situation was managed and why, but i’ll keep it to myself because it’s not useful.

regardless, next man up. josiah stewart, it’s your time.

Before playing a single snap, the Rams had been dubbed as the NFC’s team to beat only for their division rivals to outclass them in Week 1. Head coach Sean McVay called it a “humbling experience” and perhaps it will serve as a wakeup call for the juggernaut.

The next month will be a test for the Rams as they will be without their biggest star.
