A referee was caught in the crossfire when a skirmish broke out between Ohio State and Michigan on Saturday.
During the second quarter, Buckeyes quarterback Will Howard connected with wide receiver Jeremiah Smith on first-and-10.
After a four-yard gain, Smith was taken down near Michigan’s sideline, and that’s when things got interesting.
Smith rose to his feet and there appeared to be some pushing and shoving between the two rivals.
Caught in the middle of the mini brawl, the field judge fell to the turf hard and appeared to be shaken up as he lay at the feet of the players for a brief moment.
The referee was eventually helped up and both teams were dealt offsetting penalties for the brouhaha.
One of the best and oldest rivalries in college football, it’s no surprise the Buckeyes and Wolverines almost went to blows.
Ohio State and Michigan are playing in their 119th game against each other.
The Wolverines, last season’s national championship winner, have won each of the past three contests.
Michigan came away with a 13-10 victory that ended in an ugly brawl as the team tried to plant its flag on Ohio State’s turf.
