After inking a contract extension on Monday, Sean McVay’s Rams future is certain.

But when it comes to his quarterback, the Los Angeles head coach said he’s still in the dark about Matthew Stafford’s plans.

During a meeting with media members just after he and general manager Les Snead signed new, multi-deals with LA, McVay revealed he’s not yet sure if Stafford will return in 2026.

According to The Associated Press, McVay appeared “pretty confident” about an 18th season for Stafford, but he added he’s not rushing the 37-year-old signal-caller into a decision.

“I’m keeping my fingers crossed like you guys that he still wants to go play,” McVay said.

Stafford said last week on the “Let’s Go!” podcast he planned to make his choice “with some time.”

“I have so much more time to reflect on just the people and the season that we just had,” Stafford said. “I want to appreciate that and give it the time that it deserves before I start thinking personally about what’s next for me and my family.”

Stafford had arguably the best season of his career in 2025, throwing for 4,707 yards, 46 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He’s the favorite to be named the MVP of the league during NFL Honors on Thursday.
