Shocking video shows an 80-year-old driver smashing his car into a group of pedestrians, injuring at least 13 people, including a baby and a child trapped under the vehicle.
The driver of a blue Renault mounted the sidewalk and hit a group of people standing outside some shops in Cerrillos in Argentina late last Wednesday, Gente de Salta reported.
Nine adults and four kids, including a 1-year-old baby, were injured. Several — including two kids, ages 5 and 11 — were hospitalized but have since been discharged.
Shocked onlookers raced in and helped save those hit, including children trapped under the crashed Renault.
“We had to lift the car to be able to get another minor out,” a witness only identified as Emilio told the outlet, saying the crash happened in a “very urban” area where cars travel at high speed.
“It could have been a tragedy,” he said.
The driver had a breathalyzer test that came back negative, Argentine officials said, without detailing what caused the elderly driver’s accident.
However, Emilio, the witness, said, “It seems he fainted.”
