The devastated friends of the woman who was killed by her own father in a heinous murder-suicide inside their New Jersey mansion said “she deserved so much more.”
Sloane Grodnick, 24, was shot dead by her insurance executive dad, David, 61, inside their $1.7 million Montgomery Township home on Oct. 2, according to prosecutors.
David also killed his wife, Lora, 62, in the deadly attack before he turned the gun on himself.
Now, Sloane Grodnick’s friends are honoring her life in a heartbreaking GoFundMe tribute to raise money for a memorial.
“We knew Sloane through her pre-teen years and watched her grow up,” they wrote. “We spent countless days swimming, coloring, listening to music, and talking about everything happening in each of our lives, from the mundane to the exciting.
“She was silly, she was funny, and she deserved so much more.”
They said she loved making art and continued that passion while earning a degree from Savannah College of Art and Design.
She was close to earning her master’s degree from the Rhode Island School of Design when she and her mom were killed, according to the post.
The fundraiser, which has already raised over $3,500, is to plant a tree with an accompanying plaque for her at Grounds for Sculpture – a 42-acre non-profit sculpture park, museum and arboretum in Hamilton.
“[W]e would like to honor Sloane within Grounds for Sculpture, where world-renowned sculptures, art installations, and beautiful gardens share the landscape,” the friends wrote.
“This way, her memory will be surrounded by what she loved most, and those that loved her will have a place to visit and keep her memory alive.”
