The latest episode of “Saturday Night Live” had tons of election-related jokes, including a bit about celebrities who have endorsed either Kamala Harris or Donald Trump in the race.
During the “Weekend Update” segment, Heidi Gardner impersonated Reba McEntire as she joined Colin Jost at the table, and avoided naming which candidate she’s supporting.
“Well ain’t that what everybody wants to know? Who’s Bad Bunny endorsing? Who’s Reba voting for?” Gardner, 41, said.
“Well here’s the thing: call me Shawn Mendes, cause I’m still figuring it out,” the comedian added, referring to Mendes’ recent comments about the speculation over his sexuality.
Jost, 42, asked Gardner’s McEntire about being “undecided” and pointed out that the election is next week.
“Well see, I come from a little town called McAlester, Oklahoma, and we don’t make up our minds quickly,” Gardner responded. “In fact, we got a saying: if you think the milk is spoiled, give it another sip.”
Gardner further joked, “When I’m on ‘The Voice,’ I don’t know if the person singing is a Republican or a Democrat. All I care is they’re Team Reba, and not Team Snoop Diggity Dog, Michael Souffle, or the blonde Japanese woman from No Doubt.
When asked if she’s voting for Trump, 78, or Harris, 60, Gardner said, “Why can’t they both be president? Like our milk in McAlester — creamy and crunchy.”
“I don’t care if you’re white, purple, gay, black, skinny, fake boobs, or stinky flapping naturals. If you can sing, you’re Team Reba,” Gardner went on.
“Growing up, we didn’t even know what political parties were. We were Methodist-atheist,” the comedian added. “Mama was a Republican and daddy was Pennywise — I’m a red-head ain’t I? We didn’t have much.
Our house had no water, so we had to drink mama’s perfume. Mama worked 59 jobs just to keep us in school and daddy only had the one, eating kids. My mama was only 75 pounds and 67 of them was breasts. But I watched her put on her finest voting dress and crawl down to the polls. Not because she couldn’t walk, but because them stinky naturals swaying low.”
At the end of the segment, Gardner announced she was voting on her phone by inputting her Social Security number, credit card information and a photo of “your red and curlies,” as she snapped a picture under her pants.
Last night’s “SNL” was the show’s final episode before the 2024 presidential election on Tuesday. John Mulaney hosted while Chappell Roan was the musical guest.
Countless celebrities have already announced who they’re supporting in the race.
A-listers like Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lopez, Bruce Springsteen, Eminem, Jennifer Aniston, Leonardo DiCaprio and Julia Roberts are pro-Harris, who made a cameo on “SNL” alongside her impersonator Maya Rudolph in the show’s cold open.
Trump, meanwhile, is being backed by Jason Aldean, Elon Musk, Zachary Levi, Dr. Phil, Danica Patrick, Kid Rock, Amber Rose, Caitlyn Jenner, and more.
The next episode of “SNL,” airing four days after the election, will be hosted by comedian Bill Burr.
