Rep. Mark Green’s daughter is grieving “the loss of the person that we thought was our father” as the family navigates the aftermath of the lawmaker’s affair allegations.
“My dad sells himself in politics as being a Christian, conservative family man,” Catherine Green told the Nashville Banner. “His actions in the last, whatever, year have not been that.”
Green (R-Tenn.) was accused last month by his wife, Camilla “Camie” Green, of cheating on her with a woman 27 years younger than him, whom she called a “predator.”
Camie claimed Green was “having an affair with a 32-year-old woman” in a group text sent to lawmakers on Sept. 11, according to the message reviewed by The Post.
Catherine Green claims her father’s affair began last fall but wasn’t discovered until the politician’s brother found a letter from the woman on his desk.
Rep. Green initially denied the allegations until the family discovered “additional evidence” at the family home in Montgomery County.
“Over the last year and a half, two years, we’ve really noticed a difference in him. So who knows if that’s just the toxic environment that is D.C., but something has changed,” Catherine told the outlet. “We’ve all had to basically grieve the loss of the person that we thought was our father.”
The frustrated daughter said her father had increasingly become “self-centered” and aloof, saying he showed a lack of communication and disinterest in family activities over Christmas.
Camie Green landed in hot water after her message misidentified her husband’s lover as a reporter at the political news outlet, Axios.
She received a cease-and-desist letter from Axios’ in-house counsel that called the claim “false and per se defamatory,” as the outlet called for a follow-up message to amend the mistake.
“Your message has not only caused this reporter considerable emotional distress, it has harmed her professional reputation,” Axios content counsel Brian Westley wrote to Camie Green.
The unidentified woman who Rep. Green was romantically involved with works in politics, but doesn’t associate with the outlet, according to Politico.
“I want to correct the record, because I misidentified someone in that message. My husband has never had a relationship with a reporter from Axios, and I regret having said that,” she told the outlet.
Camie Green claimed she offered to work with Rep. Green through their marriage troubles, but was rebuffed.
“I have offered reconciliation, and he wants nothing of it and has insisted on a divorce,” Camie Green said in the message, which a congressional aide told The Post was also forwarded via email to offices on Capitol Hill.
“Satan has rewritten our marriage in his mind. I am being quite open about this as 1) I cherish the prayer of any who are willing and 2) I want to make others aware of how readily available ‘predators’ are for our husbands,” she added.
As news broke around DC of the affair, the 59-year-old politician opted to file for divorce.
“This is a difficult time for my family and me, and we are currently going through divorce proceedings. As this is a deeply private matter, I ask for privacy. I will continue to serve this district with all I’ve got, as I have the last five and a half years,” Green said.
As chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, Green has been House Republicans’ chief attack dog against the Harris-Biden administration over the ongoing border crisis.
