That was a generational Knicks breakthrough — and the beginning of the end of the Celtics

The Knicks can no longer surprise, but simply offer their latest reminder — everything is possible.

Fighting back against the defending champs to claim their third win in which they trailed by double digits in the second half, the Knicks played perhaps their best game of the season Monday night and moved within one win of reaching the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in a quarter-century, defeating the Celtics, 121-113, in Game 4 of the second-round series.

Game 5 will be played in Boston on Wednesday, but the Celtics likely will have to save their season without star forward Jayson Tatum, who was spectacular in a 42-point masterpiece, but suffered a seemingly devastating non-contact injury to his right leg in the final minutes. Tatum, who writhed in pain on the Garden floor after chasing a loose ball, was unable to put weight on his right leg and was taken to the locker room in a wheelchair. He will undergo an MRI exam on Tuesday.

“We’re concerned about his health and we’re concerned with what we have to do better in Game 5,” Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla said.
