Days after Jordan Henderson’s freak injury celebrating England’s World Cup win over Mexico on Sunday, his father revealed more details about the incident and his son’s status.
Brian Henderson told the Daily Mail that Jordan suffered an injury to his left forearm specifically and that “he’s just completely smashed it.”
“He’s going to have a cast on and then it depends on what the experts say,” Brian added.
Brian added that despite the injury, Henderson intends to remain with England for the rest of the World Cup and not return home yet.
Henderson didn’t play a minute in the country’s 3-2 win over Mexico, but required a stretcher and oxygen after falling during the team’s postgame celebration.
The 36-year-old joined his teammates in singing Oasis hit “Wonderwall” in front of fans behind a goal, but took a nasty fall vaulting back over the advertising boards.
As Henderson’s teammates went to their base in Kansas City, the midfielder went to a Mexico City hospital.
Brian watched the injury happen from England, and discussed what went through his mind during the moment.
“At first I just thought he’d fallen,” Brian said. “I thought he’d maybe scraped his wrist. I had no idea it was that serious until they were interviewing Harry Kane and a trolley came past with Jordan on it. I could see him on there with oxygen and things.”
“Straight away, I messaged his PA (physician’s assistant), who was over there, to try and find out what had happened.”
Henderson has only played in one game for England during their World Cup run, logging six minutes in its Group Stage win over Panama.
England next takes on Norway in the semifinals Saturday.
