A onetime San Francisco Giants player nearly lost his entire MLB collection.

Former MLB player Daniel Johnson had more than $90,000 worth of items stolen from a storage unit in Arizona, FOX 10 Phoenix reported.

The two alleged burglars, Daniel Jacob Thompson, 48, and Michael Charles Hummel, 30, were arrested on Friday, one day after footage of them breaking into Johnson’s storage unit was released by Phoenix police.

Thompson and Hummel had tried to peddle two pairs of shoes they had pilfered from the storage unit when they were caught in the act, with a pawn-shop employee recognizing the duo from a circulating police flyer.

The theft took place on September 27; Johnson and his fiancée Alison Wysong were using the storage facility while they remodeled their Arizona home.

Most of the items stolen were clothing. Johnson, who has played for the Cleveland Guardians, the Baltimore Orioles, the Houston Astros and the San Francisco Giants across five MLB seasons, revealed that much of what was swiped was his beloved baseball memorabilia.

“A lot of the other things were replaceable. But when it comes to the baseball… apparel and memorabilia that I had for over my 10 years… it really was a gut buster because I knew that unless I played for all those teams, there’s no guarantee that I get that stuff back,” Johnson told FOX 10.

He added that he had planned to donate some of the stolen items to charity.

The attack reportedly wasn’t targeted, with the two alleged burglars stealing from multiple storage units.

Johnson spent eight games with the Astros’ big league roster in 2026, getting two hits in 14 at-bats.
